We're almost there!!!

So we are half way through Spirit Week and that means that Greek Sing is just a few short days away!!! We hope everyone is practicing hard, but is able to take some breaks for our Spirit Point Check-ins!

On Monday we had our Insomnia event, and we hope everyone enjoyed the cookies! Be sure to get your receipts with your name and student id number on them in as soon as possible so that you can get the points you deserve. We are SO HAPPY with the turn out and we raised so much for the scholarship! Thank you to everyone who supported it.

Yesterday, we had students come in and do their favorite dance move for points. We loved seeing the crazy moves every one had to show!

Today, come to the HUB between 1-4 in room 327 to play "Name that Tune" for more points!!

Thursday, come to the same room at the same time frame to sing us a bit of one of your songs! We are so excited to hear your lovely voices!!

And on Friday, just come in wearing your greek sing shirt and show it off to us!!

BUT DON'T FORGET... You can buy raffle tickets during any of these spirit point check ins. The prizes are awesome and include a gorgeous ring and a year's worth of bagels from Panera!! Yum!! All funds from raffle tickets purchased goes towards the scholarship fund.

Speaking of the scholarship fund, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who applied! They are currently in the process of being reviewed and we cannot wait to announce the winners.

We also can't wait to see your designs for the T-shirt contest and for the window contest! We love to give out spirit points!!

See you all on Saturday for the Final Dress Rehearsel! The show is so close, we can't wait!!

What's better than Ice Cream and Spirit Points?

Spirit points and ice cream proved to be a winning combination last Monday night for Greek Sing 2012!

Organizations took a much-needed break to go to Cold Stone Creamery to earn spirit points and to enjoy delicious ice cream with the Greek community.   From 5 to 10pm members of the Greek Sing Executive Committee scooped ice cream for 700 people!!  We are all so happy that so many people came in to support Greek Sing! As soon as we find out how much money is made for the scholarships, we'll be sure to let you all know!

Greek Sing Overall Carolyn Hayford said that she was “ thrilled to see the turn out for the cold stone fundraiser” and that “the money raised is going to make a huge difference.”  Hayford also mentioned that the director of special events, Brittany Pont, made sure the event had more registers and scoopers this year so that they would be able to avoid the long waits from years past.

All proceeds from the event will be going to the Gayle Beyer’s Scholarship fund.  The scholarship is in honor of woman who showed great dedication and allegiance to the Greek community.  Every year, the scholarship is given to a member of a Greek organization who is able to demonstrate the same excellence and commitment to the Greek community, and we are so thankful for everyone who came and supported it!

We would also like to say THANK YOU to everyone who is getting super involved in the Facebook photo contest! We adore how creative and funny your pictures are, and here are some of our favorites from the Halloween theme. We can't wait to see how crazy you all are with this week's Thanksgiving theme.

How GREAT was the Kick-Off Party???

Greeks from all 19 triads packed Alumni Hall

The Greek Sing Kick Off Party kicked off Greek Sing with a bang on a Wednesday in Alumni Hall. All 19 triads were present for a short preview of each show. The sneak peek featured 90 second snippets of each all-greek pairing’s themed performance. Every group brought an entourage of up to 10 additional, non-dancing members to pack alumni hall, all of whom worked together to keep the energy high. Afterwards, spirit points were awarded to the Top Three performances and other, smaller awards were handed out by the judges. Delta Gamma, Alpha Epsilon Pi and Delta Kappa Epsilon (“Newsies”) captured the top award, with Delta Upsilon, Delta Tau Delta, and Delta Zeta (“The Lion King”) taking second and Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Delta Pi, and Pi Lambda Phi (“Footloose”) finishing third.
Greek Sing Executive VP Nick Doyle (Delta Lambda Phi) acted as Emcee for the night

Theater students Amanda Reiser & David Kisan joined IFC Executive VP Chip Ray and PHC VP of Communications Amanda Cillo joined Greek Sing Executive Director Carolyn Hayford (Center) as judges.

It was a night filled with many highs and few lows. Chloe Griffin, Greek Sing chair for Delta Gamma Sorority, began the night with optimism. Her favorite part of the kickoff party was  “… many performers getting their first taste of what its like to perform in front of a crowd.” Many of the talented performers in Greek Sing have never set foot on a stage, and in some cases, have never performed anything in front a large group. If there were any first time performers in the Delta Gamma preview of “Newsies”, it did not show. Delta Gamma, along with Alpha Epsilon Pi and Delta Kappa Epsilon, featured strong ensemble singing and few mistakes on a packed stage.

Tau Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Xi Delta, and Alpha Kappa Alpha showed early promise with flawless flips and swings in their preview of “Saturday Night Fever.”

None of the highs of the night were quite as high as the note hit by the leading man in the Kappa Delta, Pi Kappa Phi, and Theta Delta Chi rendition of Green Day’s “American Idiot.” Patrick Fedena, who helped his triad win Best Vocals and has had parts in a dozen other shows, brought irreplaceable experience to the show. Kappa Delta Greek Sing chair Amanda Jacobs took part in the excitement of the evening but noted that her favorite part of Greek Sing is yet to come, sharing that “the shows really get exciting in costume.”
Members of the executive committee directed captains and made sure everything was run correctly

For such an outstanding night of performance, the occasional technical hiccup could not reduce the spirits of some groups. Delta Chi, Alpha Chi Omega, and Phi Kappa Theta had the microphone stop functioning twice during their performance, but kept their performance on track and finished strong. Some groups surprised the audience with genre-bending performances, like the Alpha Gamma Rho, Alpha Delta Pi, and Pi Lambda Phi performance of “Footloose.” 1980’s dance moves and classic rock merged seamlessly with modern stepping to impress the judges. Alpha Delta Pi Greek Sing Chair Jennifer Rausch had a big picture view of the night, relating that it was “Really exciting to see everyone’s hard work pay off so quickly.”

Kappa Delta Rho, Pi Beta Phi, and Beta Theta Pi strike a pose during their rendition of “Grease.”

The 2012 Greek Sing Kick Off Party was a huge success and every triad showed great potential for the full show in December.

Now, watch out next week for some great information from the Greek Sing Blood Drive we had. We thank everyone that came out and donated, because it really was for such a great cause.

Thanks Everyone!

Wooo! Everyone did an amazing job at the first dress rehearsal yesterday. We can tell just how hard everyone is working and we on Greek Sing Exec are so proud. Everyone's routines were great. This year's Greek Sing is going to be awesome!!! But yesterday was an even longer day for us than it was for you. This is how we started out....

And we eventually got so antsy that this happened!

That would be the Executive Director Carolyn climbing for a little stretch.

But none the less, we thank everyone for coming out. It was such a fun day. And keep practicing, because the Greek Sing Kick-Off party is quickly approaching!

We also want to thank all of our 21+ year olds for heading out to Cafe last Tuesday night. The even was a super success in raising money for the scholarship and a told of spirit points were awarded. Here are some of the people who came out. Are any of them you?
